Tabby Kerwin has decided that she needs to focus on other aspects other life, and we wish her every success and happiness.
We are delighted to announce that Helen Douthwaite has agreed to be our new adjudicator and we look forward to working with her.
Many things have changed during the last couple of years, and one of them is that Tabby Kerwin has decided to focus on other areas of her very busy life. We are delighted to say that we have found an exciting new adjudicator, Helen Douthwaite, who has recently completed the Association of Brass Band Adjudicators trainee scheme. Hailing from the North East, but now living in Glasgow she has performed regularly at the Whit Friday contest, as part of Tartan Brass, so she understands well the ethos of the day and the community spirit. She has a passion for youth music, understanding first-hand the importance of access to high quality music making opportunities for young people. She co-founded the Gorbals Youth Brass Band in 2012, which provides free ‘access for all’ instrumental tuition to young people across Glasgow who might otherwise not have the opportunity to learn a brass instrument.
Helen is currently resident Conductor and Principal Trombone with the Kirkintilloch Band and recently co-hosted the inaugural Scottish Brass Learning Conference for brass teachers in all settings and genres.
Her aim in adjudications is to encourage and support performers of all levels, giving fair and clear feedback, and she believes that her extensive musical experience, passion and commitment to providing high quality adjudication will support the Diggle Band Contest, building upon previous success. We very much look forward to this partnership, which will bring energy and diversity to the contest day and hopefully wider banding landscape.
Our annual Duck Race is due to take place on Easter Monday 18th April. The ducks are currently in intensive training after two years without competition. Please keep an eye out on social media for ways of buying your ducks.
